We’re looking for a strategic leader to oversee commercial activities across Rail Operations Group (ROG), Rail Operations & Assets (ROAL), and Traxion. Working with the MD/CEO, you’ll shape and deliver the business plan, drive growth, and ensure profitability across the Group.
You’ll identify market opportunities, lead diversification efforts, and maintain strong customer relationships. The role also involves leveraging DfT rolling stock cascades, building industry partnerships, and ensuring commercial operations reflect best practice. Close collaboration with finance will be key to maintaining robust systems and governance.

Head of Procurement

Rail Operations Group is excited to announce a newly created opportunity for a Head of Procurement to join our Leadership Team. This strategic role will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies that align with our business objectives and values.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Head of Procurement will oversee contract negotiations, supplier performance, purchasing activities, and the maintenance of procurement policies and procedures. While this role does not include direct line management, it carries significant influence and responsibility across the organisation—ensuring best-in-class supplier relationships, robust contract management, and effective cost control throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with company goals
• Manage purchasing requirements to ensure value for money
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Negotiate supplier contracts and pricing to minimise risk and maximise value
• Conduct supplier evaluations and performance reviews
• Track procurement activities and lead cost-saving initiatives
• Collaborate with Finance Business Partners to ensure budget adherence
• Maintain high levels of computer literacy across MS Office and railway systems
• Willingness to travel and work away from home as required
• Hold a valid UK driving licence
Qualifications & Education
• Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field
• CIPS Level 4 accreditation and actively working towards Level 5
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain, ideally within rail, transport, or heavy engineering
Preferred Skills
• MCIPS accreditation or working towards it
• Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship skills
• Experience in both public and private procurement (desirable)
• Knowledge of UK rail industry standards (desirable)
• Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office suite
• Understanding of rail vehicle components, infrastructure materials, or project-based procurement is highly advantageous
